To produce low-flammability, high-temperature resistant, paper-like materials based on polyimide fibres I, where n is an integer greater than 1 and A is a tetravalent aromatic group and R is at least one divalent aromatic group, a handleable sheet of these fibres is brought into contact with a polyimide solution, dried and if appropriate compressed.
