A planting mattock consists of a holder tube with a sloping lower side and a cut-in knife adjacent thereto mounted hingedly. The area of the cut-in knife exceeds the adjacent area of a sloping side of the holder tube. The mattock is equipped with a shifting stop made as a knife of the mattock. The cut-in knife thereof is equipped with a protecting projection to prevent earth of getting into the opening of the holder tube.
