The device comprises at least one refractory assembly arranged in the wall of the metallurgical container and having at least one passage (5) passing through this wall. The entry section (6) of the passage (5) is in the shape of a slot and the cross-section of the passage (5) also has the same slot shape over at least one part (7) of the length of the passage (5) starting at the entry section (6). The slot may be rectilinear or curved, single or multiple. It is preferably parallel to the axis of tilting of the container. <IMAGE>
