PURPOSE:To obtain a thin air electrode having good high rate discharge performance and increased electrolyte leakage resistance by forming a water repellent layer on one side of a carrier film which is a soluble film, and bonding it on the surface of a gas side of an electrode, and dissolving the carrier film to remove. CONSTITUTION:A water repellent layer side of a film having two layer structure of a carrier film comprising soluble polymer and a water repellent layer is placed on the surface of a gas side of an electrode and press-bonded by applying suitable pressure. Polyvinyl alcohol, partially acetylated polyvinyl alcohol, or polyacrylic acid or its salt is used as the soluble polymer, the thin film layer having electrolyte resistance and water repellency is used as the water repellent layer, for example, polytetrafluoroethylene, fluorinated ethylene propylene is used. The carrier film which is the outermost layer of the stacked body of three layer structure is removed by dissolving to obtain an air electrode. When this air electrode is used, by using metal oxide or hydroxide having less noble potential less than 0.4V than oxidation-reduction potential of oxygen on the electrolyte side of the electrode, instantaneous large current can be supplied in intermittent discharge. |
