PURPOSE: To obtain a pharmaceutical composition for human or animal, containing a benzodioxinopyrrole compound and effective for the treatment, amelioration or prevention of cerebrum ischemia. CONSTITUTION: This composition contains a compound of the formula [R is H, a 1-6C alkyl, a 3-6C alkenyl, a 3-6C alkynyl, a 3-4C cycloalkyl, an aralkyl or CHO; R<1> and R<2> are each a halogen, a 1-4C alkyl, a 1-4C alkoxy, OH, CN, NO2 or NR<3> R<4> (R<3> and R<4> are each H or a 1-4C alkyl)] or its physiologically permissible salt or hydrate, e.g. (±)-trans-5-fluoro2, 3,3a,9a-tetrahydro-1H-[1,4]- benzodioxino[2,3-e]pyrrole. The composition is also useful for protecting the damage of neuron caused by cerebral ischemia. The daily administration dose of the compound is 0.04-40mg/kg. It is convenient to administer the compound in the form of a unit administration form containing 0.04-12mg/kg of the active component.
