PURPOSE:To obtain the three-dimensional catalyst which maintains high performance by depositing platinum and palladium on separate rare earth-contg. alumina or oxides, preparing the alumina or oxides together with a binder and water into a slurry, coating a carrier with this slurry and further, depositing rhodium thereon. CONSTITUTION:The rare earth-contg. alumina or rare earth oxide deposited with the platinum, the rare earth-contg. alumina or rare earth oxide deposited with the palladium, the binder, and the water are mixed and stirred to prepare the slurry. The surface of the heat resistant carrier, such as honeycomb carrier, is coated with this slurry and further, the carrier is immersed into a rhodium- contg. soln. and is thereby deposited with the rhodium. Since the platinum and the palladium are separately deposited in such a manner, the alloying thereof is prevented and the catalyst performance is less degraded. |
