<p>A light weight exhaust muffler (10) is provided comprising a pair of formed external shells (12, 14) and a pair of pipes (16, 18) disposed therein. The external shells are formed to include peripheral portions (24, 54) and chambers (42, 44, 72, 74) extending from the peripheral portions. The chambers (42, 44, 72, 74) are separated from one another by baffle creases (30, 60) unitary with the respective external shells (12, 14). Portions of the baffle creases (30, 60) of one external shell (12, 14) are secured in face-to-face contact with corresponding portions of the baffle creases in the other external shell (12, 14). The baffle creases (30, 60) comprise arcuate portions (38, 40, 68, 70) corresponding to the shape of the pipes (16, 18) passing between the chambers (42, 44, 72, 74) separated by the baffle creases (30, 60).</p> |
