PURPOSE:To efficiently recover a catalyst used and obtain the subject high- purity compounds in high yield by reacting phenols with an olefin using a specific catalyst, then reacting the resultant reaction product with a fluorinating agent and removing the formed AlF3. CONSTITUTION:Phenols, such as phenol, expressed by formula I (R<1> and R<2> are H or alkyl) are reacted with a 1-5C olefin, such as isobutylene, in an amount of 100-500 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. above-mentioned compound in the presence of an aluminum triphenoxide catalyst expressed by formula II in an amount of 0.01-3.0 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. compound expressed by formula I at 30-250 deg.C under ordinary pressure to 30kg/cm<2> (gauge pressure) for 0.1-10hr to provide a reaction product, which is then reacted with an aqueous solution of a fluorinating agent, such as NaF or KF, in 1-50wt.% concentration in an amount of 50-500 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. afore-mentioned reaction product at 20-200 deg.C for 1-120min to precipitate AlF3, which is then removed by filtration. Thereby, the objective compounds useful as phenolic resins, surfactants, etc., are obtained. |
