Lubricating oil comprises olefin sulphide (s) and/or sulphide of formula R1-Sx-R2 [R1 and R2 are each C4-30 alkyl, aryl, alkylaryl or cycloalkyl opt. substd. by alkyl or aryl; x is 1-6 . The olefin sulphide is prepd. by reacting C2-8 olefin with S or S-cpd. and contains 20-70 wt.% S. The lubricating oil may be blended with mineral oil, synthetic oil (e.g. alkyl benzene, polybutene, etc.), sulphided mineral oil, oil or fat, antioxidant, rust inhibitor and corrosion inhibitor. The lubricating oil has kinematic viscosity of pref. 5-2000 cSt. at 40≦̸C.
