Process for the manufacture of calcium cyanamide consisting in subjecting a mixture of calcium carbonate and of urea to two successive heat treatments, one between 135 and 200 DEG C and the following between 300 and 500 DEG C, the reaction gases being reusable for the synthesis of a part of the urea involved. Industrial product resulting from these treatments constituting a nitrogen-containing fertiliser having a high fertilising value and a raw material for organic syntheses.
