PURPOSE:To facilitate the microadjustment of the position of an optical fiber by adjusting the relative positions of the incident and exist end faces of the optical fiber and the end faces of a photoelectric conversion element by utilizing the thermal expansion of a metallic block. CONSTITUTION:A ferrule inside cylinder 11A and a collared ferrule 11 are integrally fixed by laser welding while the incident and exist end faces of the optical fiber 10 are held in proximity as desired to the end face of the photoelectric conversion element 1. A metallized layer 13 is provided in the position corresponding to the hole of a side plate member 7 on the outer peripheral surface of the optical fiber 10 and a sleeve 14 is fitted into this layer 13 part and is fixed by soldering, etc. An exothermic layer 22 is selectively energized in this state and the metallic block 25 packaged on this upper surface is heated to expand as desired, then the optical end face 26 of the block 25 is pressed to the outer peripheral surface of the optical fiber 10 and the incident and exist end faces of the optical fiber 10 are adjusted and moved as desired until the highest degree of optical coupling is attained. The collared ferrule 11 is then laser-welded to a flat plate member 5. The sleeve 14 is then laser-welded to the side plate member 7 to additionally stabilize the fixing of the optical fiber 10. |
