<p>Magazine for storing and organising cassettes, in particular containing letters, comprising a plurality of parallel storing lines (8) on which can be received identical cassettes (5) of a parallelepipedal general shape arriving from a conveyor belt (2) on which these cassettes are received, originating from a processing station situated upstream in order to be subsequently conveyed to a processing station situated downstream of the conveyor, the magazine (1) being arranged in an intermediate position between these two stations. According to the invention, this magazine is characterised in that, the storing lines (8) being distributed in at least two superposed planes (15-16-17), separated by a distance at least equal to the height of a cassette (5), it comprises in each plane at least one input belt (6-9-10-11) and at least one output belt (7-12-13-14), parallel to each other, for transferring the cassettes, respectively onto and away from any of the storing lines, these belts running perpendicularly to the direction of these lines and each comprising at least one inclinable element (9a-10b) capable of raising the cassettes (5) from one plane to another, a retractable deflector (22) provided at right angles to one of the ends of each storing line (8) above the input belt, and a fixed deflector (23) at the opposite end of the line for passing the cassettes on to the output belt, means (34-35-41) for sequentially advancing each cassette on the storing lines as it is introduced onto a given line from the input belt until halted at the end of the line by a withdrawable stop (42), and means (43-49-52) for removing the cassette following the withdrawal of the stop in order to bring it onto the output belt.
