The invention relates to a vehicle brake system with at least one brake pressure modulator for limiting the slip which might occur between at least one vehicle wheel and a carriageway on which the vehicle in question moves. In a known vehicle brake system a brake pressure modulator is assigned to each vehicle brake, which modulator must be capable of essentially fully reducing the highest possible brake pressure emanating from a brake master cylinder. Such brake pressure modulators must be very efficient. They are accordingly expensive and heavy. The invention therefore proposes to insert brake pressure modulators (26, 26a) of cheaper and lighter design and with reduced efficiency between the brake master cylinder (18) and the wheel brakes (3, 4, 7, 8) and to assign an actuator (21, 25) to the brake master cylinder (18), which actuator, for example, comprises a brake booster, already provided, and a valve arrangement (25), which controls the booster so as to reduce the brake pressure in the brake master cylinder (18) as necessary. <IMAGE>
