The port-controlled engine working on the four-stroke principle has cylinders (13, 14) with inlet and exhaust ports (15, 16) and pistons (11, 12), rotatable about their axis, with axial ports (17, 18) assigned to the combustion chambers (1 to 4). Rotation of the pistons (11, 12) ensures that during the intake and exhaust stroke of the respective piston (11, 12) each combustion chamber (1 to 4) communicates by way of the respective axial port (17, 18) with the inlet or exhaust port (15, 16) respectively. <IMAGE>
