A lock has a primary unit (10, 11) from which top and bottom actuator strips (12, 13) are extended or retracted to lock or release upper and lower secondary locking units, the primary unit including two non-coaxial spindle operable follower assemblies (19, 20), each of which is operable to slide a bottom actuator plate (27) and thereby retract or extend the strips (12, 13), a latch bolt (22), movable between respective extended and retracted positions by one of said follower assemblies (19) and also by an actuating mechanism (47, 50), a deadbolt (18), movable between respective extended and retracted positions by a further, key operated actuating mechanism, extension of the deadbolt causing a deadbolt projection (42) to enter a slot (30) of the bottom actuator plate (27) preventing movement of the plate (27), and deadlocking the follower assemblies against angular movement in one direction by operation of external operating handles connected thereto, in use. <IMAGE> |
