PURPOSE:To realize an access to a desired file despite the complete ignorance of the physical position relation of the file in a network and to shorten the processing time in a remote file access system by providing a designating means, a memory means, an access control means, etc., on a key terminal. CONSTITUTION:When a control unit 3 and a file name to receive the accesses are designated by a designating means 6 of a certain terminal 1 for this terminal 1, an access control means 8 of the terminal 1 refers to a memory means 7 of the terminal 1 to detect a key terminal 4 of the designated unit 3. If the detected terminal 4 is equal to its own terminal 1, an access is given to a designated file 5 which is controlled by the terminal 1. When the detected terminal 4 is not equal to its own terminal 1, an access request is given to the terminal 4 for the file 5. Thus an access is possible to a desired file despite the complete ignorance of the physical position relation of the file in a network. Then it is not required to check in which host the objective file exists. As a result, the processing time is shortened in a remote file access system.
