PURPOSE:To inexpensively produce the title gasket having the performance equivalent to or higher than that of the shrinkable gasket made of the pyrophillite produced in South Africa and considered to be the best at present by forming the gasket from a solid mixture of soft phyllosilicate and hard phyllosilicate. CONSTITUTION:The soft phyllosilicate (e.g., talc) powder and hard phyllosilicate (e.g., kaolin) powder having 500mu mean particle diameter are mixed so that the ratio of the mean particle diameter of soft phyllosilicate powder to that of hard phyllosilicate powder is controlled to 2-20. The obtained mixture is press-formed. The mixture preferably contains 20-80wt.% soft phyllosilicate powder and the balance hard phyllosilicate powder. As a result, a shrinkable gasket having the performance equivalent to or higher than that of the shrinkable gasket made of the pyrophillite powder produced in South Africa and considered to be the best at present is produced at a low cost. |
