PURPOSE:To form balls of the same size at the ends of wires irrespective of the magnitude of the length of a gap by so supplying a predetermined current by a constant current circuit added to a discharging circuit as to continue discharging for a predetermined period of time. CONSTITUTION:An electrode 2, a capillary 2, a wire 3 made of gold, aluminum, copper, etc., are provided. The electrode 1 is connected to the wire 3 by a discharging circuit, the end of the wire 3 is melted by discharging between the electrode 1 and the wire 3, and a ball 4 is formed. The discharging circuit has a high voltage DC power source 5, and a constant-current circuit 6. The power source 5 is turned ON to effect an insulator breakdown, and a constant current flows from the circuit 6 for a predetermined period of time predetermined by suitable means such as a timer circuit, etc. to continue an arc. Thus, the ball having a predetermined size can be formed without influence of the length of a gap between the end of the wire and the electrode by setting a constant current value and an arc duration. |
