The present invention concerns the stems for fixing, in a femur, the male part of a femoral prosthesis ball joint. The stem according to the invention comprises at least one tail 3 and a fixation head 4, the tail comprising two first 11 and second 12 consecutive parts, the first 11 being of cylindrical shape, the second 12 having a cross-section 15 of substantially trapezoidal shape over its entire length, the narrow base 16 being constant and equal to the diameter of the first part 11, and the wide base 17 varying between a minimum value equal to the value of the diameter, for the first end 18 of the second part, and a maximum value, for the second end 19 at the level of the head, the wide bases 17 constituting an outer side 20 contained in a plane 21 tangential to the cylindrical form of the first part.
