PURPOSE:To provide a protecting means of some kind and sharply reduce the occasion that a brake device loses the stationary holding capability of an elevator driving system to cause a serious accident by detecting that the rotor of the brake device and a holding section are set in the half-contact (half- absorption) state when a rotating force is applied to the holding section during the ascent of the cage of an elevator. CONSTITUTION:When a brake device 9 is set in the half-absorption state and a disk is rotated while rubbing a lining during the elevator operation, a relay 15 is excited, if it is continued for three seconds, a brake abnormality detecting unit 75 judges as the abnormality of a brake and stops the elevator in emergency. An elevator cage 1 stopped once is rescue-operated to the nearest floor with the low-speed operation. If the low-speed rescue operation is not completed within the preset time, the brake device may be possibly damaged, and the elevator is stopped.
