An electric hair cutter includes a stationary blade (21), a moving blade (22), a motor (10) and an operating mode selector (2). The mode selector is provided for setting the moving blade to the stationary blade in one of three operating positions; a cutting position, a styling position and a thinning-out position, each producing an effective cutting zone with different cutting properties. For instance, the cutting position provides a first effective cutting zone where the entire teeth of the stationary blade are in cutting engagement with those of the moving blade.
