PURPOSE:To improve the wear resistance and crack resistance of a compound roll by specifying the chemical component compsn. of a cast iron constituting the shell of said roll. CONSTITUTION:The shell coating the core of the compound roll is formed of the cast iron consisting of 1.8-2.5% C, 0.5-1.5% Si, 0.6-1.5% Mn, 3.0-6.0% Ni, 1.0-3.0% Cr, 0.3-1.5% Mo and the balance Fe. The shell has the structure dispersed and crystallized with fine carbide in a bainite base and has about >=70 hardness HsD, about >=90kgmm3/2 fracture toughness value K1C and about >=50kg/mm<2> tensile strength. This compound roll surpasses the conventional compound high-alloy grain roll in fracture toughness value and surpasses adamite rolls in hardness. In addition, the roll is highly resistant to both cracks and wear and has satisfactory strength. |
