Continuous rolling mill for steel plates include means for controlling the speed of one or several electric motors driving one or several roll stands such that at the continuous rated output of the motors the ratio of max. to min. rolling speed is 3-10. A speed- varying transmission is provided between the mill and motor so as to set the speed ratio. The motor is an AC motor. Mill can be adapted to rolling material over a wide range of dimensions and min. power.
