PURPOSE:To suppress hydrogen gas generation by using negative electrode material to which a specific amount of 2,3-epoxy-2,3-dihydro-1,4-naphthoquinone is added. CONSTITUTION:For an alkaline battery, negative electrode material is used wherein 2,3-opoxy-2,-dihydro-1,4 naphthoquinone of 0.001-5.0 weight portion is added to zinc alloy powder 100 weight portion which constitutes the battery. According to the alkaline battery in the constitution like this, in case that the inclusion rate of mercury is lowered, in particular even in the case that the inclusion rate of mercury is made ultralow mercury amounts being 0.2weight% or less of zinc alloy powder to be used, the generation of hydrogen gas attendant upon the corrosion of zinc is suppressed, and further the battery performance improves. Also, since the mercury can be made the low inclusion ratio, it can meet social needs. |
