The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for determining the charging status q of a chargeable battery 5 of an internal combustion engine. Measurement values ib, Ub, Tb, Tm, ω related to the operating state of the battery 5 and the engine are gathered by means of sensors 2, 3, 4, 6 positioned in association with the battery 5 and the engine, and also by means of current measurement units 13, 14, 15, 16 and voltage measurement units 17, 18 which, together with a microprocessor 11, form part of a central unit 1. From the battery current ib values obtained, a value of the available charging quantity of the battery 5 is derived. The invention is characterized in that an assessment of the age of the battery 5 is made in the central unit 1 on the basis of data known in advance regarding the ageing-dependency of the internal resistance of the battery 5 measured during the starting procedure of the engine, this age assessment being used for repeated correction of the calculated value of the available charging quantity of the battery 5. <IMAGE> |
