The nut according to the invention comprises a rigid mounting plate 30 provided with a tapped hole 31 and with surfaces 33 which can be applied against the flanges of a C-section inside the latter and a cage 40 having a support face 42 and at least two clip-in tabs 43 capable of interacting with respective shoulders 34 of the mounting plate 30, whereas a spacing element provided between the support face 42 and the mounting plate 30 serves to allow there to remain, at the periphery of the nut, a space whose height is substantially equal to the thickness of the flanges of the section. The mounting plate/cage assembly 30, 40 can be moved by rotating through a quarter of a turn between an insertion position and a holding position. The invention is used in particular for mounting an electric appliance support on the section. <IMAGE>
