A turning device for large components, especially for large space flight structure parts, such as rocket motor bodies, upper and lower rocket transition structures and the like, has (with respect to a relatively light and convenient construction as well as simple handling) a crossmember which can be suspended on a crane or the like and a retaining framework, in the form of a frame, for a structure part to be turned, the retaining framework being mounted (via chain rotating rims on the edge and chains) on crossmember sprocket wheels such that it can pivot, which sprocket wheels are connected to a controllable drive system.
