PURPOSE:To provide a fuel battery with high efficiency and long life by using a carrying plutinum alloy electrode catalyst for an acid electrolyte fuel battery, wherein a Pt-Fe-Cu type 3-dimensional regular alloy in specified composition is dispersed and carried on a carrier consisting of conductive carbon powder. CONSTITUTION:A Pt-Fe or Pt-Cu type carrying 2-dimensional regular alloy is formed in advance, and Cu or Fe is carried to undergo again a process of producing alloy. Thereby a 3-dimensional regular alloy containing 40-60at.% Pt, 13-40at.% Fe, and 13-40at.% Cu is constructed. The resultant alloy has surface core square crystal structure beta0 phase. This square crystal regular alloy is carried on a carrier of conductive carbon powder in highly dispersed condition with a mean crystal dia. of 50Angstrom or less to accomplish an electrode catalyst, which together with a water repellent binding agent is bound to an electroconductive and acid resistant support. This constitution provides a fuel battery using a carrying platinum alloy electrode having high efficiency and long life. |
