PURPOSE:To enable the sponge-like expansion of a negative electrode plate, which is packed with a paste, to be prevented by the plate itself by applying a fluidized synthetic resin to the peripheral grid part of the plate before carrying out drying of the plate, and simultaneously carrying out drying of the paste and hardening of the resin. CONSTITUTION:Before drying the second-stage plate or the third-stage plate of a negative electrode plate for a lead storage battery which is packed with a paste 5, the peripheral grid part 1 of the plate is brushed so as to remove the paste adhering to the part 1. Next, the part 1 is coated with a fluidized epoxy resin 3, and the plate is put in a dryer so as to dry the paste 5 and to harden the resin 3, thereby making a negative electrode plate. Therefore, since the part 1 hardened with a hardener at the same time when secondary drying is carried out is entirely covered with the epoxy resin 3, any short circuit which might develop between electrode plates is prevented by suppressing the growth of foamed lead in the negative electrode plate by an exceptionally simple method. Consequently, the reliability of the negative electrode plate can be increased. |
