摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To increase the apparent opening angle in the same way as in case of diagonal vapor deposition and to improve contrast and transmittance by using a perpendicular treating agent for oriented films as a method for an orientation treatment of the liquid crystal of the electrooptic device formed by using the ferroelectric liquid crystal and combining the same with a rubbing method. CONSTITUTION:The perpendicular treating agent is used as the method for orientation treatment of the ferroelectric liquid crystal 5 and is combined with the rubbing method for the oriented film. The liquid crystal molecules tend to be oriented in parallel with substrates by the effect of the rubbing treatment and the liquid crystal molecules tend to be oriented perpendicularly with the substrates by the silane coupling agent treatment. The liquid crystal molecules are made to exist with a certain angle with the substrates by these two reverse effects. The layer in a smectic C phase inclines in the same manner as in case of diagonal vapor deposition if the liquid crystal molecules are subjected to such treatment on the upper and lower substrates. The apparent opening angle is increased and the contrast and transmittance are improved in this way.</p>
