PURPOSE:To improve the sealing property of a seal section and increase the utilization factor of a positive electrode by providing an auxiliary negative member reacted prior to a main negative electrode in a preliminary discharge between a packing and a positive electrode via a separator. CONSTITUTION:An auxiliary negative electrode member 8 is made of a ring- shaped lithium thin plate and located between a packing 5 and the periphery of a positive electrode 1 via a separator 6 and electrically connected to a main negative electrode 3 via a conducting member 9. The auxiliary negative electrode member 8 is reacted prior to the main negative electrode 3 in a preliminary discharge between the insulating packing 5 and the periphery of the positive electrode 1 supporting it. As a result, the periphery of the positive electrode 1 is expanded, the insulating packing 5 is also pushed upward, thus the adhesion of the junction between the inner face of the opening section of a battery can and the outer face of the packing 5 is increased, the sealing property of a seal section is improved. The electrolyte containing property is increased at the periphery of the positive electrode 1 due to expansion, this portion can participate in the main discharge reaction, the utilization factor of the positive electrode 1 is increased. |
