PURPOSE:To select the center wavelength of absolute single polarizing operation optionally by varying the diameter of an optical fiber continuously and uniformly under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:The polarization plane maintaining optical fiber of four-layered structure which is provided with a clad 2, an elliptic jacket 3, and a support around a core 1 is bent to vary the external diameter between + or -20-40mum within a wire length range of 15m, so that the optical fiber external diameter is varied continuously and uniformly. Therefore, when the optical fiber is applied to an optical polarizer, the absolute single polarizing operation for any wavelength is enabled even if the wavelength is varied. Consequently, when an SLD (superluminescent diode) which has wide spectrum width is used as a light source. The center wavelength of the absolute single polarizing operation is selected optionally even in the case of a shift in the center wavelength of the absolute single polarizing operation from the center wavelength of the SLD. |
