PURPOSE:To make it possible to perform drawing with a high draw ratio and to elevate tenacity and elastic modulus by performing compression molding of a specified ultrahigh MW polyethylene powder at a temp. lower than its m.p., extruding or rolling thereafter it under a solid state and then drawing it. CONSTITUTION:0.1-15pts.wt. polyethylene having an intrinsic viscosity in decalin at 135 deg.C of 0.1-2dl/g is formed by polymerizing ethylene in the presence of hydrogen by using a catalyst consisting of a solid catalyst component contg. at least Mg, Ti and/or V and an organometallic compd. Then, this compsn. contg. said polyethylene is furthermore polymerized to obtain an ultrahigh MW polyethylene powder by forming 85-99.9pts.wt. polyethylene having an intrinsic viscosity in decalin at 135 deg.C of 8-50dl/g. The ultrahigh MW polyethylene powder is compression-molded at a temp. lower than the m.p. Then, after solid state extrusion or rolling thereof is performed, drawing thereof is performed to prepare a high strength-high modulus polyethylene material. |
