PURPOSE:To enable half-tone printing or half-tone dropout to be applied to a character printed in an enlarged size through effective use of the kind or pattern of a registered character such as an external character by providing a embedding pattern generating means for synthesizing images inputted through an input means, and an embedding pattern storage means for storing the generated pattern by assigning an index code thereto. CONSTITUTION:Upon selection of half-tone printing or half-tone dropout on a keyboard 14, the process selected is executed under the control of a CPU 11. That is, an external character to be a solid pattern is first registered at a designated point in an external character storage region 131 in a RAM 13. Next, a character pattern to be an object of the half-tone printing or half-tone dropout is enlarged according to a set magnification. Thereafter, for example, when the half-tone printing is designated and the registered external character is designated as the solid pattern, the solid-printed pattern (external character) is read from the region 131, and is stored into a solid-pattern buffer 132. When the solid patterns are entirely stored in the buffer 132, the half-tone printing by use of the solid patterns is conducted. |
