Such series resistors can, in the event of malfunction, lead to high temperatures, with the result that fusable cutouts or MICRO thermal fuses are installed in the circuit of the resistor, these breaking the circuit when a particular temperature is reached. In order greatly to accelerate the response of a MICRO thermal fuse (MTS), one end of the main resistor (2) is connected to one terminal wire (7) of the MTS via an auxiliary resistor in the form of a resistance wire or strip (8). In the event of malfunction (locking of a motor) said wire of strip heats up rapidly and quickly releases this heat to the MTS so that it immediately breaks the circuit. A fusable cutout is not necessary. The resistor component is used principally as a series resistor for fans (blowers) or air-conditioning systems of motor vehicles. <IMAGE>
