In a dental handpiece for emitting radiation, which comprises a housing (2) having a light source (1), from which a light conductor (4) exposed to radiation by the light source (1) on its inner end (3) projects by its other end (5) emitting the radiation, the housing (2) having an actuation handle (6) with a switch (7) for switching on the light source (1) in the vicinity of its end on the light conductor side, the actuation handle (6) being arranged around the circumference of the housing (2) and contact surfaces (10) being arranged on the outer side of an insertion sleeve (12) provided in the housing (2), improved and simpler conveyance of the cooling air is to be achieved. For this purpose, the insertion sleeve (12) is provided so as to leave an annular gap (13) for passage of cooling air in the housing (2). <IMAGE>
