The invention relates to a driving pulley with a variable working diameter which comprises radially adjustable blocks that define a polygon similar to a circle with their backs. A lining composed of an elastic and frictional material with a positive-locking action in the circumferential direction is attached to the back of each block so as to be releasable transversely to the circumferential direction, allowing the shaped lining component to be replaced easily when it has worn. The block forms a unit with the shaped lining component and the said shaped lining component can be removed either in the axial direction after the driving pulley has been disassembled or in an approximately radial direction without disassembly of the driving pulley to allow replacement. The shaped lining component is either a homogeneous rubber or plastic component or consists of a hard supporting body with a lining layer bonded to it. <IMAGE>
