Flush valves in which an external operating handle is eliminated. An electronic sensor (57), solenoid valve (42) and a solenoid (44) contained within a single unit to operate a flush valve (10) are provided which is either built into the flush valve (10) or can be retrofitted to a conventional flush valve with an external operating handle. Thc solenoid valve (42) can also be controlled by external means separated and apart from the infra-red sensor mechanism (57).
