A writing tip for a liquid writing instrument has a surface-hardened layer 3 formed on its surface. The writing tip is made of a thermoplastic resin having an ink conducting space 1, and the said layer comprises one or more films selected from a metal, or an oxide, nitride, carbide or silicide thereof deposited by a low temperature plasma method. Thus, the writing tip has improved wear resistance and permits smooth writing even over a much extended writing distance. <IMAGE>
