The braking device, for quickly stopping a reel (5) of a VTR to be converted from one mode to the other mode, for example from a fast forward mode to a rewinding mode, comprises a brake lever (1) integrally formed with a swingable piece (9), a quick return lever (12) mounted on the swingable piece, a stopper (10) for limiting the swing angle having a slit hole (13) through which a pin shaft (14) on a connection plate (4) is assembled for allowing the swingable piece and the quick return lever to be operated.
