PURPOSE:To freely make changeably width of a cast slab from wide to narrow width by rotatably supporting blocks of at least half circulating length of side dam to shifting support member and movably connecting the shifting support member with an endless guide rail. CONSTITUTION:Plural number of the blocks 3 connecting with chain links 5, 6 are shifted to the arrow mark B direction after pouring molten metal into a mold surrounding with the blocks 3 inserted as holding with belts 20. In the case of changing the mold 1 from the wide width to the narrow width, by working a cylinder 7, the one side group of continuous blocks 3 of half circulating length engaging with guide 2A is shifted to the width direction of a cast slab and the other side group of continuous blocks 3 engaging with the other guide 2B, which is not moved, is held to the original position. Then, when the one side group of blocks shifted to the cast slab 1 direction reaches to the mold position, stopped part is formed to the cast slab 1, to change the cast slab 1 from the wide width to the narrow width. Further, the cast slab can be freely changed to the reverse direction. |
