<p>The application describes a face support which is characterised in that it is orientated with one or more ultrasonic distance-measuring devices in the direction of the coal face and in the direction of the roof and/or the roof and floor, and during the displacing of the shield-type support compressed-air and/or water-jet devices are operated simultaneously at the particular measuring devices, e.g. sensors, in order to thereby blow away friable rock in the area of the horizontal or vertical measurement. <IMAGE></p>
