Buildings having a rounded or vaulted form, similar to an igloo, are constructed from modular prefabricated elements which assemble to develop the building form circumferentially opt. in superimposed layers. The blocks are pref. made of expanded polystyrene or expanded polyurethane resin. The resulting structure is covered in a protective coating of sprayed material, opt. also enveloping reinforcement materials in the form of chicken wire, synthetic textile netting or glass fibre matting. The walls are supported by a base plate and may meet in an opening which receives an overhead cap. Opt. an outside layer of weatherproof resin is applied. Vertical segments may be bound by one or more circumferential ties of e.g. PVC. USE - For use in a variety of localities, for independence from the availability and character of local materials such as snow, concrete, various specific types of stone as solid blocks or aggregate. Minimises erection time and ensures a high deg. of thermal insulation.
