PRODUCTION OF FORMAMIDE AND DERIVATIVE THEREOF

PURPOSE:To efficiently and advantageously obtain the aimed compound by returning low-concentration formaldehyde essentially produced in a reaction process to the reaction process in producing formaldehyde or derivative thereof from methanol through methylal. CONSTITUTION:i) Methanol 2 and formaldehyde 5 and 5' are heated using reactors X-Z in an aqueous solution in the presence of an acid catalyst to give methylal. ii) The resultant methylal is oxidized in the presence of an oxidation catalyst 6. iii) Then the reaction production gas is absorbed into water or formaldehyde aqueous solution in a spraying tower 10 and absorber 10a to afford a formaldehyde aqueous solution. iv) As necessary, the formaldehyde aqueous solution is reacted in a reactor 13 to afford a formaldehyde derivative and then formaldehyde rich in water content is separated and returned to the process i by a feed tube 5 and high-concentration formaldehyde or derivative thereof reduced in water content is efficiently and advantageously obtained from methanol without requiring any special apparatus for concentrating low- concentration formaldehyde inevitably produced in the process.
