PURPOSE:To obtain a material having superior handling properties and running properties when recording paper has a low friction coefficient, by specifying the surface energy of a composition in an upper layer of the thermal recording material using a reaction of an electron donative dye precursor with an electron accepting compound. CONSTITUTION:A thermal recording material is so constructed as to have a surface energy of 45erg/cm<2> or less, with respect to a composition in a protec tive layer if a thermal color forming layer and the protective layer are provided on a substrate or a composition in a thermal color forming layer if an undercoat layer and the thermal color forming layer are provided. A thermal recording material having an upper layer with a low surface energy can impart good slip properties by further being enhanced in flatness. With use of a material with a high surface energy, the good flatness sometimes may adversely affect the slip properties. Thus, the material is required to have a surface energy of 45erg/cm<2> or less in order to enhance the flatness by such a treatment as calendering for contributing to slip properties. |
