Refractory blocks are manufactured semi-continuously by (a) pouring a first part of the column in a mould, the mould being in the closed position and the lower part of the mould being closed by a temporary base, (b) allowing this first part to solidify during a time sufficient to form a solid surface crust, (c) opening the mould, (d) lowering the first moulded part until its upper face occupies the initial position of the temporary base, (e) closing the mould, (f) forming an opening in the upper part of the crust, (g) filling the mould with refractory liquid so that the settle cavity of the first moulded part is filled up by fresh liquid, (h) allowing the surface of the second part to solidify, (i) thermally treating the moulded refractory column immediately after its exit from the mould in a vertical apparatus at the top of which the mould is placed (j) cutting the hot moulded refractory column into refractory blocks of the desired length at the lower end of the vertical apparatus, and (k) continuing the thermal treatment of the refractory blocks in a separate apparatus.
|
