PURPOSE:To facilitate design and development by providing an inference mechanism, a knowledge base and a design information file, etc., and generating a desired program automatically from design specifications and a program parts previously prepared through interaction with a designer. CONSTITUTION:The inference mechanism 13 performs inference by using procedure knowledge and rule type knowledge stored in a knowledge base 15, and a working storage 14 stores temporarily an opinion, intermediate hypothesis and a conclusion, etc., at the time of the inference. Besides, the design information file 16 preserves the contents of the knowledge base 15, and simultaneously, stores additional information necessitated for the design. Thus, computerization becomes possible, and the design can be supported by generating the desired program automatically from the design specifications and the previously prepared program part through the interaction with the designer. Namely, since complicated work (module arrangement, allocation of input information and output information, etc.) is performed by a computer, processing time can be shortened, and simultaneously, the labor of the designer can be reduced, and in addition, the control of design information cam be centralized, and further, delivery system control can be centralized as well, and modification or the like can be smoothly performed.
