PURPOSE:To easily obtain SiC ceramics having stable quality with high density, high hardness, and high heat resistance and excellent in electric conductivity by mixing specific amounts of Nb or Nb-type substances with SiC and then sintering the resulting mixture. CONSTITUTION:At least one kind among Nb and Nb-compounds is mixed with SiC by 0.5-25wt.%. As the above Nb-compounds e.g., NbN, Nb3Sn, Nb2O5, and Nb(OC2H5)5 can be used. Subsequently, the resulting mixture is sintered. At this time, when sintering is carried out at <=about 1,690 deg.C, beta-type SiC ceramics for low temp. use is obtained, and, on the other hand, high temp.-type SiC ceramics is obtained when sintering is carried out at >=about 1,710 deg.C. These SiC ceramics have electric conductivity and are capable of being subjected to electric discharge machining. |
