PURPOSE:To protect the inside of a card reader from dust and to attain precise information reading over a long period by forming a shutter to close a card loading port and cleaning materials to be abutted upon the surface of each card. CONSTITUTION:Under waiting status that no card is inserted, a shutter opening/ closing port 1 is closed by the excitation of a plate spring 6 to prevent the inside of the card reader body 7 from the entry of dust from the card loading port 5. Then a card is inserted from the card loading port 5, the leading end of the inserted card is abutted upon the shutter opening/closing port 1. When the card is inserted moreover into the inside of the body 7, shutter plates 3a, 3b are rotated around a pin 4 in the opening direction of the shutter opening/ closing port 1 against the exciting force of the plate spring 6. Consequently, the upper and lower cleaning materials 2 are pressed to the upper and lower surfaces of the card to scrape dust from the upper and lower surfaces of the card and prevent the card reader body 7 from the transfer of dust into its inside.
