The mast-righting system for a catamaran is designed in such a way that after capsizing the catamaran can be righted again with a minimum of effort. One side of the hull is raised out of the water with the aid of buoyancy members which are provided on the deck and in the mast of the catamaran. At the same time, the other side of the hull is pressed downwards by water ballast, and the catamaran is thus brought into an angle of 40/45 degrees. Additional water ballast acting as a counterweight then brings the catamaran into the upright position. No water reaches the interior of the boat during the entire righting operation.
